Here's a project I've undertaken recently. It's a non-canonical take on the Barsoom stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs concerning the character Phaidor, the character that featured in the novels GODS OF MARS and WARLORD OF MARS, she was a high priestess of the Therns, daughter of Matai Shang Hekkador (emporer) of the sinister Thern cult, the bad guys who eat the pilgrims who make the journey in the name of false religion along the river Iss.The plot device here is that Phaidor survives the events at the end of WARLORD OF MARS and goes on to have adventures of her own.
This tale is for the most part in a largely unfinished state, in it Phaidor's life is saved by the reclusive scientist Karn Gravus in his hidden laboratory at Mars' North Pole.
But Karn Gravus also hides a shameful secret, one that Phaidor must discover the answer to.

"Good comic. "Iss" makes me think of ISS a nasty contractor company I once worked for. Thanks for the information on Richard Hoagland; I thought he'd gone too quiet lately.
ReplyDeleteYes. Of course Burroughs Barsoom (Mars)series of books contained a lot of Egyptian mythological references Such as the Godess Issis (Issus) the ancient ruined city of Horz (Horus), I think he was influenced quite considerably by Theosophy..
ReplyDeleteI'll have to read those books. I've read Kim Stanley Robinson's "Mars" books.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information on the "South African Roswell". I didn't know it was in Tony Dodd's book. I think I've got a copy somewhere that I've never read.
yes, they're free to download on project Gutenberg as e-books as they are now copyright expired.
ReplyDeleteTony Dodd's book is actually very good.
ReplyDeleteThe thing with the Burroughs Mars series is that the first one was written a hundred years ago. JOHN CARTER Is a pretty good film, it'll be out on dvd soon and I might do a blog on when I can do screen grabs and stuff to study the symbolism etc.
Interestingly the Martian Technology in the movie has a very Reichian feel to it. that was one aspect of it that got to me.
Hi Zan. I've only just seen your comment on my Roswell article. (Sorry, I don't check old articles regularly. How much did you see of this South African Roswell event and have you spoken to anybody in the UFO field about it?
ReplyDeleteI Personally saw nothing of the Kalahari incident, but I was doing my national service in the medical corps of the s.a. Army at the time it happened, and Tony Dodd's desriptions etc in the book makes it sound very plausible to me.
ReplyDeleteOf course this was the era of Apartheid and everything was so secretive, it was almost a hermit state, so such an event would have been fairly easy to shut up at that time.
Strange how the Americans seem to even have had access to Apartheid era South Africa.
Thing is, I could actually buy this scenario. Hey, maybe she hooks up with the resurrcarnated (or whatever he is) Kar Komak. Or maybe that's a dumb idea, I don't know.
